‘ I’m single, I’m actually a very depressed person, not all the time, but sometimes I really feel fucked up. And lastly I like Snoopy’, comments the Brazilian D&B wizard as he unzips his jacket and flashes his Marcie t-shirt at his unsuspecting victims.

It was certainly unbelievable that we came out of DXO the night before, alive and interviewing this bigger than life drama-mama. Join us as DJ Marky shares with us his worldly views on women, Brazilian talents and his lust for vinyl. And no, we did not ask him about Brazilian waxing.

Marky on the Singapore scene, women and weather….

The thing is I’ve never been here, and I think this is a beautiful city, yeah but I didn’t realize or know there was a drum n bass scene here, all I knew there was a really strong Drum & Bass scene in Tokyo.
So when this came up, I went, “Yeah! I wanna go! I wanna go check it out.”
Everyone told me that’s its really nice here and the weather’s like Brazil.
I came straight from China where it was very cold, too cold for me in china.
And when the pilot said welcome to Singapore, its 28 degrees I said shit, Brazil? At home it’s so so hot now.
I enjoyed the party yesterday. The only thing about yesterday was that the DJ box was too far from the people and I like playing closer to the people
I don’t like to stay too far from the crowd and I wanna see the reaction of the crowd, so I can think about what I play next.

Stamina’s comments of Singapore to Marky.

Stamina said Singapore’s really nice and has a lot of pretty women, which is good for me, because I don’t have a girlfriend at the moment, and that’s a really cool place and it’s really really hot like Brazil
And when he came with Friction and Friction plays a bit harder,
So last night I tried to play a little harder but when I played a little harder, I think I lost a couple people, then I thought, these people don’t wanna hear this, and me neither, I don’t wanna hear this shit then I went back to funky, then I was back there was a nice vibe that came in, but then I start playing Pendulum tracks the people go crazy. They really love that, then I said shit, these people like both the styles. But cool, I really really enjoyed it.

Yeah its like a dream playing Singapore, its my first time here and I wanna come back and play more here yeah for me its unforgettable, fly Singapore airlines. Fly me by Singapore airlines and I’ll come. Give me a gold card.

Marky on his achievements thus far

I don’t think about this, I think I don’t think enough things sometimes. I guess it’s my son. He’s very young just 8 months.

It’s so weird, I come out and play nice parties and see nice people, people like the tunes I play but sometimes I feel really depressed, and when I play at this bad feelings are gone, so I just wanna make people happy.

Marky on LK

LK at the end of the day it’s a very simple tune, I don’t know why people like this tune. It’s so simple when me and XRS made this tune, we never expected this to happen, I think me and X made many way much better tunes then LK. But I don’t know it’s hard, when I go into a studio I don’t go, “I need to make a big tune now.”
I just got idea and go studio and make the track if it happens, if people like it, cool. But if people don’t like it it’s cool as while. I don’t make a tune, thinking yeah all the DJs are going to play this tonight. All my tunes mean a moment in my life.
When I make LK I was really really happy. But when me and Bungle we made a tune called ‘No Time to Love’. Because me and him were in the same situation, when my girlfriend spilt with me and his spilt with him. And that tune is so massive now on the club scene. Like LK, I don’t know why it’s got such an impact.
When me and X made ‘Moments of Lust’. We expected the same kind of reaction as LK, but people didn’t catch the vibe. So it’s hard and it even harder cause we are underground artists.

Marky on Innerground

Oh yeah, I put out Total Science tunes, Digital, Logistics, and I put out Logistics before he signed with Hospital.
I signed this guy from Ohio called Random Movement. And he makes really really good music, he make some proper funky tracks. Yesterday I played four new tunes from this guy and I got a really good reaction, so yes
Just try putting out something different. I put out what I like. I don’t care if the sales is good or bad. But if I like the tune I’ll put it out.

Marky on the other Brazilian talent

One of the best guys out of Brazil right now I feel is Bungle, I make tunes with him and he does on his own as well
His own tunes are incredible, his new tune, which is out now on Innerground called
‘25th Floor’. I gave this name to the tune for him because he didn’t know what to call it. Basically it’s because he lives on the 25th floor in this huge building.
And this tune, not many DJs play it, but Fabio plays it, every time I hear this tune I feel like I’m in a dream, in dream with my kid, my parents. so good vibe, good good thing, for me its one of the best tunes I heard this year, just so different, so clever, but not many play it, they like it but don’t know how to play, some of the DJs that play harder stuff, love it but don’t know how to play it.
But the tune is really really good.

Marky on being vinyl crazy

I’m a vinyl addict, I buy vinyl every time. I buy records everywhere, especially if I go to places like Tokyo, I will spend sometimes ten thousand pounds on records. I’ve got big record collection, I got about twenty thousand records in my house in Brazil. I’m crazy bout funk and disco stuff.

The one track that does it for Marky?

I don’t know one tune to name for me is so hard, and if I choose a track I don’t think I’ll choose any drum and bass track.
I think right now it would be the Bungle tune, 25th floor & yeah a Marcus Intalex one, Universe; I love this tune so much.

So what’s always in Marky’s record bag?

‘Universe’ by Marcus Intalex & ST Files
‘Casino Royal’ by DJ Zinc
‘Control My Mind’ by Invaders
‘Slip Through’ by Ed Rush & Optical
‘Watermelon/ Sicknote’ also by Ed Rush & Optical
‘Hush Hush’ by Shimon
‘Vibrations’ by Commix
‘LK’ - I have to, I don’t wanna play it, but I have to.
And lastly ‘Rebirth’ by Swift
Yeah and these are basically the tunes that I like a lot
